Contact Lens Advantages

FOR NEARLY EVERY SPORTING EVENT, CONTACT LENSES OFFER NUMEROUS ADVANTAGES OVER SUNGLASSES AND TRADITIONAL EYEGLASSES.

• Peripheral vision is essential for sports, and sunglasses typically have very flat lenses that leave very large areas without protection from bright light and visual noise.  With tinted contact lenses, no area is left without protection from distracting light.   
• Contacts remain in place while you’re moving.  Sunglasses can slide or fall off when running or moving, and contact lenses remain securely on the eye even in contact sports like football.  Since contacts don’t slide like glasses, they offer athletes more stable vision. 
• Glasses can cause injury in contact sports or if hit by a fast moving ball.  Sports are the leading cause of serious eye injuries, and contacts won’t shatter and cause an eye injury like sunglasses can.
• Contacts do not obstruct your view of the field.  Frames can inhibit your view, and for athletes it is essential to have an unobstructed, full view of everything in order to react quickly.  Since contact lenses move with your eye, you are also able to see objects at your feet better like a quickly moving ground ball.
• Contacts fit comfortably under safety equipment.  Helmets and protective gear like a catcher’s mask are not conducive for bulky sunglasses. 

While contacts do offer distinct advantages for traditional sports like football and baseball, they also have very useful applications for a wide array of outdoor activities. 

Water sports like wakeboarding, surfing, and fishing all require protection from bright sunlight, and sport tints offer hands free protection from the sun’s harmful rays.  Sunglasses are easy to lose in the water and often leave awkward tan lines, which makes sport contact lenses a better alternative for water sports.  Of the tint colors, Sun-tac lenses are best suited for water sports since they have the same visual effect as sunglasses.
